Covid-19 Policies For Live Events

At From Day One, we believe in bringing people together. When thoughtful people meet it creates a positive environment that can help inform, inspire, and lead to positive change. In-person gatherings create fruitful opportunities for interaction, remove distractions, and increase our ability to learn and connect with others.

For this to be possible, however, gatherings need to take place in a healthy and safe environment for everyone involved. Needless to say, the global pandemic has made these issues difficult to navigate.

As a team we’ve worked out some principles and rules of thumb we’re employing as we do so:

100% Vaccination Policy

For our live events in 2022, From Day One will require all attendees to be fully vaccinated, as defined by state authorities at the time.

We believe that vaccines are a highly effective way to mitigate the dangers of Covid-19, and that gathering in a group of other vaccinated people can be a reasonable and responsible decision for many. We’ve decided to require that every person attending or staffing our events be fully vaccinated. We will ask for, and insist, that each person in the building (including staff and partners) show proof of vaccination as well as attest that they are not currently experiencing symptoms of Covid-19.

We understand that not everyone chooses or is able to get vaccinated. For those members of our audience who are not vaccinated, we are pleased to offer a large and comprehensive slate of virtual events, including regular webinars and monthly interactive virtual conferences, which we encourage everyone in our community to attend. Please see our conference schedule for more information about all of our virtual and live programs.

For those who are attending in person, proof of vaccination will be required, and waivers or exemptions will not be offered. Without these materials, we will not be able to admit you to the event or issue a refund.

If you are not able to meet the vaccination criteria in time, or your situation changes during the week prior to the event, please reach out to us prior to the day of the event for information on transferring your ticket to a future live or virtual event.

On Site Accommodations

We will continue to refine our policy on wearing masks during events, as the implications of the Omicron variant become clearer. Due to local requirements, our Seattle event on Jan. 18 will require masks throughout the event, except in designated areas while food and beverages are served.

In addition, on-site rapid antigen testing will be available at our Seattle event, provided on arrival by registered nurses, with results provided in 10-15 minutes. Participating in rapid testing is optional, and available to all guests who want it as a courtesy and additional safety measure.

Each of our live events will have options for attendees who would prefer additional social distancing. Examples include the option of distanced, single-person tables in a separate area during the food and beverage service, and a live broadcast of main-stage content to an alternate location within the building with distanced seating.

In addition, attendees who wish to signal to others that they are not comfortable being approached will have the option of choosing a brightly colored lanyard.

For events in February, March, and beyond, we are evaluating options for on-site testing, and will update this space with further details as available.

Omicron and Moving Forward

With the above plans in place, our strong preference is in favor of proceeding with our planned schedule of live events in 2022. We plan on attending our events ourselves, and we’re personally comfortable with our decision to do so.

With that said, this opinion is based on weighing a complicated set of factors, and we’re always open to reevaluating our plans and policies when conditions change.

For example, if government or venue restrictions are put in place that prohibit a specific event from going forward, or restrict its capacity such that we don’t feel the experience will match our expectations, we will work with our partners to reschedule the event to a later date. Likewise, we will also consider rescheduling if we feel that we will be unable to present a compelling slate of content due to concerns from our speakers and content partners.
